Les Powell School

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I welcome you to the Les Powell School website. Les Powell School is a Centre of Excellence School, providing quality Individual Education and Transition Programs for students with moderate to severe intellectual and multiple disabilities.

My vision for the School (which is communicated through our belief statement and school plan) is to ensure that our students’ welfare and educational needs are met in an environment that is safe, well equipped and cohesive to learning.

The School’s motto “Towards Independence” reflects the aim of providing all students with learning outcomes that are relevant to present and future community living.  The central aim of  Les Powell School is to provide students with high quality educational programs that support the individual needs of students.

We are proud to be part of the NSW Public Education System in the south west region of Sydney.  The School community comprises of many cultural origins which include 17 different nationalities totaling 73.66 % of our School population.

Our School has many outstanding features which include:

 I have been teaching in special education since 1984, holding executive positions at Karonga School and The Hills School before accepting the Principal’s position at Les Powell School in    Term 4 2007.

Being a parent of a set of twins in Public High School, I feel I have a strong understanding of the current issues and concerns confronting the parents of today’s society.

When not at school, I can be found with my family, coaching or managing soccer teams, running, swimming or perhaps enjoying some fishing time.
